Maddie is one month old! (This post is a few days late) It's incredible to see how much she has changed in the past month. At one month old, Maddie is sleeping so well. She has been sleeping in 4 hour stretches since she was a week old which has been amazing, but she has been starting to have some 5-6 hour stretches at night. Last night she slept 7 1/2 hours in a row! Maddie has also been eating really well. I'm so grateful that breastfeeding came so easy for us. The lactation consultant that Johnson and Johnson provides recommended to wait to give her first bottle until she was about four weeks old, so she just got her first bottle this week. Ben was so excited to get to feed her for the first time. I was a little worried since I've heard horror stories about the first bottle feeding, but she ate like a champ and went right back to sleep!
Maddie is currently in 0-3 month clothes and I'm guessing around 11 pounds. She hasn't been weighed since her 1 week appointment, but we've weighed her on our scale at home. She outgrew her newborn clothes in less than a week since she was born over the 5-8 pound newborn clothes range. We had thankfully exchanged a lot of the newborn clothes we had been given for larger sizes, so we only had a few outfits she never wore.
She is awake for longer times during the day and is definitely starting to show her personality. She is usually pretty content and easy going when she's awake, but there are some nights when she can get pretty fussy during the 6-9 pm stretch. Ben has become a pro at soothing her during her fussy times. I can definitely see her turning into a Daddy's girl.
She is finally starting to like her pacifier again. She liked it for a few days when she was a week old and then started to gag every time we put it in her mouth. Recently, she's started to like it when she gets fussy and its a lifesaver when she gets upset in the car.
She hates the bouncy chair that we got. If she's already content she will usually sit in the chair for a little while, but the second we turn on the vibration or music she starts screaming. We bought a swing when she was a few days old and it has been amazing. She LOVES it.
We are going the cloth diaper route with Maddie. Right now we are using a cloth diaper service where the dirty diapers get picked up from our house and they drop off clean ones every Tuesday. We are eventually going to use our own cloth diapers when she gets bigger and fits into the one size diapers, but we are being spoiled right now with the diaper service. We've started using disposable diapers overnight since she's sleeping longer stretches and we've had some leaks.
Everyone always asks who she looks like the most. When she was first born we didn't think she looked like either Ben or me. We actually thought she looked like my little sister Emily as a newborn. Now that she is a month old, there is no denying she is my daughter. She looks a lot like me when I was a baby and has even given the "Jaime" look a couple times. There are times when we see a little bit of Ben in her, so we'll see if she looks more like him as she gets older.
