While we were in Florida, Maddie turned 13 months old. I was asked many times how old she was and I kept saying "She just turned one" until I realized she was already 13 months old!
We are now in full blown toddlerhood. Maddie is running everywhere and loves to be on the go. Watching her experience new things has been so incredibly fun. On our first day in Florida Maddie was really unsure about the grass. She would poke at it and laugh, but her feet stayed cemented in one place. Eventually as she explored it a little more, she got comfortable and started running around. She LOVES being outside and gets really upset when you bring her inside. There is so much more to explore outside!
Maddie is a little flirt these days. She definitely prefers males and that was very apparent on our trip to Florida. She would giggle and smile at every older man we saw and occasionally gave the ladies a smile. She waves at every single person we pass and has gotten the Hi, Bye, and Night-Night waves down pat!
Her communication skills are getting so great! She doesn't say anything really clear yet except for Mama, Dada, and What's That, but she is great with hand signals. She constantly doing the 'More' sign for more food or if she sees something she wants and now signals to us when she has a dirty diaper. I'm not sure where she learned the signal from because it isn't the actual signal for dirty diaper, but we now know what it means! The other day Maddie and I were playing upstairs with Oliver and hadn't seen Lucy for a while. I started calling out 'Lucy, where are you?' and Maddie started yelling 'Lucy' too! It was such a fun moment. It sounds more like Ooci, but you get the point. She has just started saying 'Up' when she wants to get picked up as well.
We've started sitting on the potty chair before and after naps and bedtime. We've been doing it for a few months now and it is crazy how much she understands why she is sitting on the potty. It has gotten to the point where we put her on the potty chair right when she wakes up and she immediately goes potty! It also helps that she gets to watch the ipad while she sits there! I can tell that it is starting to register with her that if she waits to go on the potty chair she won't have a wet diaper because she stays dry while she sleeps!
Right now, we're in the stage between 1 and 2 naps each day. I think we're almost ready to stop the morning nap for good and prolong it to just an afternoon nap. There are some days when she definitely still needs two naps, but for the most part I think she'd be fine with just one. We'll see how that goes over the next month.
